Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) will be holding its 110th Annual General Meeting & Convention June 4-6th at the Moose Jaw Exhibition Convention Centre, with opening remarks from SSGA President Garner Deobald and an address by the Honourable David Marit, Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture.
“SSGA invites all livestock value chain members to join us for this event, which we have themed Weathering the Storm to celebrate the resilient nature of our industry. As Prairie ag specialists, we know that by working together, we find the right solutions, and because we don’t stop when we’re tired, we stop when we accomplish what needs to be done,” SSGA President Garner Deobald affirmed.
“We have designed this year’s three-day event agenda to explore a full range of today’s issues with sessions on identifying forage-efficient cattle; managing risk in a bull market; canola meal supplementation; improving beef cattle heat detection on pasture; the new five-year Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership programming; regional, national and global cattle market updates; and a project update on satellite-based forage insurance products,” Deobald added.
SSGA will also be featuring Strategic Energy and Environmental, Social and Governance Analyst Dr. Tammy Nemeth whom will present “A New Global Language and What it Means for Livestock Producers,” and Dr. Melanie Morrison of BetterCart Analytics whom will present her an in-depth analysis of provincial and national data sets from which she can extract specific beef SKUs for all Canadian grocers, by city and brand.
During the business session, delegates will vote on resolutions adopted at SSGA Zone meetings, elect directors at large and discuss policy directions from the producer’s perspective. Alongside the organization’s business and speaker presentations, SSGA will host an array of trade show exhibitors that will be delivering the latest products and services geared to the needs and interests of livestock operators; as well as scheduled networking breaks for attendees, guests and speakers to discuss industry issues one-on-one.
“We encourage all stock growers and industry friends to attend ― especially, young producers under the age of 40. Youth engagement continues to be a priority for our organization. We know that having a diversity of perspectives informs decision-making process and advocacy efforts. With that goal in mind, we will be continuing to encourage young producers this year by offering them a 20 per cent discount to register for the full conference,” said SSGA General Manager Chad MacPherson.
”SSGA’s voice and advocacy efforts make an impact because of our strong membership. We look forward to getting together next month to discuss the issues that matter most to our industry and to find the right ways to adapt, pivot and grow. We look forward to celebrating how far we’ve come this past year,” Deobald said. “We hope to see you in Moose Jaw!”
