About
The Autism Resource Centre (ARC) and the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) are proud to present: Different, Not Less – An Evening with Dr. Temple Grandin.
Dr. Temple Grandin is recognized as a world leader in autism awareness. She is a captivating speaker, and the world’s best-selling author on autism. Dr. Grandin is also a leading scholar and expert in livestock handling, animal welfare, and facility design.
Temple achieved all of this despite her autism diagnosis in the 1940s. Little was known about autism at the time, so she was nearly institutionalized. Fortunately, Temple received support and early interventions: “I had people in my life who didn’t give up on me: my mother, my aunt, my science teacher. I had one-on-one speech therapy. I had a nanny who spent all day playing turn-taking games with me.”
In 2010, Time Magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world and Dr. Grandin’s life story was made into an HBO movie titled “Temple Grandin”, staring Claire Danes. The film shows her life as a teenager with autism, the powerful support of those who believed in her, her own strengths and how her interests were leveraged to start her career in the animal sciences; it won seven Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Anyone seeking to gain a better understanding of autism and individuals on the spectrum will benefit from hearing Dr. Grandin speak. Her wisdom and insight will help address the needs of people living with autism. Do not miss out on this opportunity!
